Electromagnetic Environment

The electromagnetic environment encompassing a planned or existing buried utility can be important in assessing the potential for accelerated corrosion of buried metal structures and deciding how best to counteract that threat. This environment may include the presence of stray electrical currents in the ground and/or zones of high electrical conductivity. Disturbances to the local electromagnetic environment can also affect tracking/guidance for trenchless installation methods such as horizontal directional drilling.
